Therapy That Helps You
Helping You Carry Less and Feel More Like Yourself Again
You might be the one everyone depends on—the one who keeps it together, takes care of everyone else, and pushes through, even when you're running on empty. Whether you're adjusting to motherhood or carrying the expectations that often come with being a first-generation daughter, it's easy to lose sight of yourself along the way.
Therapy is a space where you don't have to keep holding everything together. Together, we'll help you reconnect with yourself, understand what's weighing on you, and create a life that feels more balanced, fulfilling, and true to who you are.

You may be feeling :
You’ve gotten used to holding a lot—often without pause, and often without being asked how you’re doing in return.
You may feel like you’re constantly “on”—thinking ahead, managing responsibilities, reading the needs of everyone around you, and trying to stay one step ahead so nothing falls apart. Even when things are quiet, your mind isn’t.
There’s a mental list that never really turns off. And no matter how much you do in a day, it can still feel like it wasn’t enough.
In motherhood, you may be loving your child deeply while also feeling overstimulated, touched out, irritable, or guilty for needing space. You may wonder how something that matters so much can also feel so heavy at times.
As a first-generation adult, you may feel the weight of navigating two worlds—carrying family expectations while also trying to build a life that feels aligned with you. You might notice guilt when you set boundaries, pressure to always be the strong one, or the sense that you’re figuring everything out alone.
No matter how it shows up, there may be a quiet exhaustion from always being the one who adapts, holds, and keeps going—no matter how full you already feel.
If this feels familiar, therapy can be a place where you don’t have to hold everything at once—or translate your experience to be understood. You get to have space too.
Meet Your New Postpartum and First Generation Adult Therapist in Bakersfield, CA
Hi, I'm Susana
I created Sostén Therapy because I believe everyone deserves a place where they feel genuinely supported. As a mother, first-generation daughter, and bilingual Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, I understand the complexity of balancing family responsibilities, personal goals, relationships, and life transitions—all while trying to hold yourself together through it.
Many of my clients are used to being the strong one—the person others rely on—while quietly carrying stress, anxiety, burnout, or uncertainty on their own. Over time, it can start to feel like there’s no space left for them.
I understand how quickly life can become overwhelming when you’re meeting the needs of everyone else while also trying to meet high expectations for yourself.
At Sostén Therapy, I offer a warm, compassionate space where you can slow down, feel seen, and feel supported without needing to hold it all together. Together, we work through anxiety, motherhood transitions, relationship challenges, life stress, and the many roles you carry—so you can feel more grounded, connected, and empowered in your daily life.

What People Are Saying:
You don’t have to do this on your own
This all resonates, here are the next steps!
1. Book Your Free Consultation
Many women come to therapy wondering if they're "overreacting," feeling guilty for needing support, or unsure where to even begin. A free 15-minute consultation is a chance for us to connect, talk about what you've been carrying, and see if we're a good fit. Whether you're navigating motherhood, postpartum changes, anxiety, or the pressure of balancing everyone's expectations, you don't have to figure it out alone.
2. Schedule Your First Session
Once you're ready, we'll find a weekly appointment time that fits your schedule. Consistent sessions create space to slow down, process what's been weighing on you, and begin making meaningful changes—without feeling like you have to do it all on your own.
3. Reconnect With Yourself
Together, we'll explore the patterns keeping you stuck, work through anxiety, guilt, or overwhelm, and help you reconnect with the version of yourself that may have been lost beneath responsibilities, cultural expectations, or the demands of motherhood. My goal is to help you feel more confident in your voice, more connected to yourself, and more grounded in the life you're building.

In our first session, we'll take time to get to know one another and review your intake information together. We'll talk about what's bringing you to therapy, what you've been carrying, and what you hope feels different moving forward. The first few sessions are an opportunity for you to share your story at your own pace while I get to understand your experiences, relationships, and the challenges that have shaped where you are today. Throughout the process, I'll continue checking in to make sure you feel heard, supported, and that our work together aligns with what you need.
